What is the new platform?
Freezerworks 2 will be developed on a powerful, open-source, relational database called PostgreSQL, or Postgres as it’s more commonly called, and using Kotlin as the main programming language.
Why Postgres?
Postgres provides better performance, easier iteration, and affords more future-proofing due to the size and longevity of the community supporting it. Additionally, it’s a tech stack that allows us to more easily source developer talent for creating new features more frequently as well as respond more efficiently to customer issues.
End User FAQs

The release of Freezerworks 2 is slated for mid-2026. Official release date will be announced as it’s determined.

Not right away. All active customers will need to upgrade to Version 14.01.03 by December 31, 2026, but can remain in this version as long as necessary to transition to Freezerworks 2. Request an update or reach out to your Support Specialist for questions or recommendations.

Customer support is always available with an active Customer Care Program contract. However, there will be no additional updates or upgrades to previous versions of Freezerworks after December 31, 2026.

The only data that will not be readily available is for our customers utilizing the Invoicing feature. While this data will be preserved, it will no longer be readily accessible in the software.

Most notably, Freezerworks 2 will be entirely browser-based, with a cleaner, more intuitive interface, as well as some brand new features! Freezerworks 2 will no longer have the desktop client.

Freezerworks 2 will remain an on-premise solution accessible via all major browsers, without needing access to the internet. Freezerworks 2 is not a Software-as-a-Service solution, but can be hosted internally behind your organization’s firewall.

Freezerworks 2 supports the following browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge.

As with any new release or upgrade, some downtime should be expected, but minimal. Downtime will vary on the size of your organization’s data file and we’ll share more information about downtime expectations as we move closer to launch.

Both the data and the database structure will be migrated to Freezerworks 2 during the upgrade process. This means you won’t need to rebuild anything from scratch!

Integrations will require some attention as with all major version upgrades in the past. We’ll notify customers and provide help documentation if any changes may affect your integrations.

What’s the difference?
Browser: Browser-based applications are accessed and used through a web browser, but can be hosted by your organization behind your firewalls.
Web: Web-based typically refers to applications that reside on a web server and are accessed via the internet through a browser.
Cloud: Cloud-based applications are hosted and run on remote servers, typically managed by a third-party provider and accessed via the internet.
